The amount of creativity contained within the Iowa City area is astounding. Musicians, artists, writers, photographers, and more are abundant within the Corridor, adding to the flavor of this Midwest oasis of art and culture. The Englert Theatre wanted to highlight this talent and began offering collaborative opportunities to local artists, commissioning projects to commemorate Englert milestones, our ever-supportive community, and the city we call home.
In celebration of its 100th birthday, The Englert Theatre commissioned 31 Iowan musicians and bands to write and record songs inspired by experiences or impressions of Iowa City.
Local artist Josh Carroll was commissioned to create a comic book documenting a century of Englert Theatre history.
Poet and former Iowa City resident Dora Malech was commissioned by the Englert to write original poetry for the Englert’s 10 year anniversary,
Englert at 100 is a photography exhibit by Iowa City-based photographer Sandy Dyas celebrating the Englert’s centennial year.
