Utopia in Four Movements

Description

Utopia in Four Movements is a live documentary performance by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Sam Green in collaboration with Dave Cerf and Brooklyn band The Quavers, featuring Brendan Canty (of Fugazi). Utopia uses the collective experience of cinema to explore the battered state of the utopian impulse at the dawn of the twenty-first century.

The artists are visiting courtesy of University of Iowa Office of the Provost as an Ida Cordelia Beam Distinguished Visiting Professor. The event is sponsored by the Department of Cinema & Comparative Literature, with help from the Iowa Writer's Workshop, the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and the Departments of Theatre, English and Communication Studies and the Obermann Center.
