CHASE GARRETT’S 5TH ANNUAL BLUES & BOOGIE WOOGIE PIANO STOMP features three of the most demanded leaders in blues and boogie woogie from around the world today. Prepare to be blown away as Chase Garrett (Iowa City, IA),  Ricky Nye (Cincinnati, OH), and Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne (British Columbia, Canada) hit to stage to bring you the best blues and boogie woogie show in Iowa City!

Utilizing two grand pianos, a full rhythm section and a five piece brass section the Englert Theatre will sound reminiscent of the bygone era of the 1930’s and 40’s. When swing music was at an all-time high and America’s popular music was jazz. A time when the likes of Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Count Basie and Billie Holiday ruled the airwaves, boogie woogie pianists Meade “Lux” Lewis, Albert Ammons and Pete Johnson were busy popularizing boogie woogie everywhere from rent parties in Chicago to Carnegie Hall concerts in New York City and blues pianists such as Champion Jack Dupree, Speckled Red, Memphis Slim and later Otis Spann were performing in barrelhouses and juke joints across the U.S.

Chase Garrett, voted “Best Local Act” in Iowa City, IA by the Daily Iowan in 2011, began playing piano professionally at age seventeen and within a few years was performing at blues and boogie woogie festivals across the U.S. and Europe. Having been heavily influenced by artists such as Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner, Otis Spann and Meade “Lux” Lewis, his style has grown into an infectious and diverse mix of boogie woogie, blues, swing and stride that is sure to satisfy any audience. Chase has dedicated himself to the piano not only as a pianist, but also as a technician, an instructor, an event organizer, and a producer. He has brought world class pianists to the Englert Theatre in Iowa City, IA for his annual Blues & Boogie Woogie Piano Stomp concert series and has taught master classes and piano performance at colleges, blues weeks and swing camps across the U.S.

Hailed by Living Blues Magazine as “An artist that is bringing the piano back to the front ranks of Contemporary Blues”, Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne is truly at the forefront of modern day blues piano practitioners. Well versed in both New Orleans blues and Jazz traditions by way of his Louisiana born parents, Kenny spent most of his childhood soaking up the exquisite grooves and styles laid down by artists such as Fats Domino, Roosevelt Sykes, Professor Longhair and Pete Johnson which would later prove itself useful during his work with such diverse blues and jazz greats as Jimmy Reed, Charles Mingus, Eric Bibb, Jeff Healey and Joe Louis Walker. Kenny has performed all across the U.S., Canada and Europe and throughout his travels has transformed his signature style into a perfectly seasoned mix of Kansas City Swing, West Coast Jump Blues and New Orleans Jazz that is sure to have the audience only craving more!
