“The Dream Center Presents Greg Brown: A Benefit Supporting Fathers & Families”

IOWA CITY, IA – The Englert announces “The Dream Center Presents Greg Brown: A Benefit Supporting Fathers & Families” – a benefit concert featuring folk legend Greg Brown to support The Dream Center – on May 17 at 8 p.m. The fundraiser will be hosted by City Councilman Kingsley Botchway, and also include a performances by youth artists, testimonies from Dream Center beneficiaries and a brief talk on community by Reverend Sam Mann. Admission is $100 for Zone 1 Premium Seating and $25 for Zone 2 Seating – ticket prices include a donation to the Dream Center.

“The Englert is pleased to have local favorite Greg Brown back in our house donating his time to this worthy cause and we have really enjoyed getting to work closely with The Dream Center, who have impressed us with the incredible work they are doing improve  opportunities for success for area fathers and children.” said Englert Development Director, Katie Roche, “The performing arts offer a unique and engaging way to help patrons connect with important issues like the lack of support and opportunities for paternal mentoring. Instead of reading a brochure, you are immersed in the subject and enjoy learning about why a not-for-profit like The Dream Center is making a significant contribution to our city.”

The Dream Center is a volunteer-driven, community-based nonprofit organization celebrating its second year of service in the Iowa City/Corridor community. Though only in its second year of operation, the Dream Center has impacted countless families and individuals in our community. To date, the Dream Center has served: 100+ young men enrolled in the Dream Center Youth Leadership Academy, 60+ youth enrolled in the Center’s performing arts program and 50+ dads enrolled in the Center’s Fatherhood Academy (the only one of its kind in Iowa).

“Greg Brown has been a big supporter of the Dream Center since attending last years benefit,” said Luke Benson, Community Advocate for the Dream Center. “Fred [Frederick Newell, Dream Center Founder and CEO] and I knew we wouldn’t be able to replicate that evening, but we wanted to reach more community members who care about issues the Dream Center is addressing. Greg kindly offered to headline a benefit, and we couldn’t imagine a better place to host it then the Englert.”

The Englert Theatre is a community arts center and performance space that enhances the vitality of Iowa City’s historic downtown as its last historic theater. The Englert Theatre provides diverse programming, educational opportunities and exposure to the performing and visual arts. The organization strives to highlight the talents of local performers, artists and ensembles as well as hosting regional, national and international touring performances.
